I'm back finally!! My blog was shut down by blogger for a while. Apparently it was inappropriate or it violated some terms. Weird, but at least things are back in business now. So much has happened since my last post. I spent my summer in China and NYC. I was on vacation in China for a month and then I worked and interned in NYC. My internship was at Deux Lux, a hand bag company and my other job was just office work at a clinic. Will post pictures of everything soon! Semester's almost coming to a close for me and thanksgiving's around the corner, I'm going home of course. My sophomore year has been going pretty swell. I don't even know where to begin, there's just too much to catch up on! But for now, I'm going to a post a recipe since I've been cooking a lot lately. I decided to not get a meal plan this year since I wanted to eat healthy and to improve on my culinary skills.

Here's a recipe of shrimp over rice with scallion, ginger and peanuts.

I've been bombarded with school once again.. It's midterms week right now, but I'm doing fairly well. I only have 2 more left to go. Heading back to NYC in a couple of days for spring break but I won't be spending the entire break there. I'm heading to Canada for half of it. My grandfather hasn't been feeling too well, so my family and I are flying over to see him. Hopefully it's nothing major.. I'll try to update more during next week, most likely more food posts and maybe some venturing.

Recently I declared my major and I've set my heart on Environmental Design with a concentration in ceramics. I'm focusing mostly on product/industrial design though. I want to create products that are environmentally friendly and good for mother nature, yet gets the job done or even gets two jobs done at the same time. I doing a bit of ceramics cause I'm seriously in LOVE with the wheel. When I say in love, I mean I can't get enough of it, even when class ends I feel like I could stay in the studio for hours on end. I've been rushing to finish all my other assignments so I can jump into the studio again and make some bowls or pots.. ceramics excites me and the process is so soothing and therapeutic. I'll post some of my recent works from the class later on when I finish glazing them.

On another note, there was recently a jazz formal and my school. Which means I took some pictures of the fancy food they had!

Salad - Mixed greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and red onions with dressing and really good bread.

Apricot glazed grilled fresh salmon fillets on a bed of wilted spinach and topped w/sauteed shitake mushrooms, fried rice - soy lemon butter sauce.

It was a lovely night, my friends and I dressed up and there was a live jazz band.

This is an installation piece by Jim Campbell, it's absolutely stunning!

The piece is called Scattered Lights.

It felt absolutely magical walking through the piece.

Sorry for the poor picture quality but here's a moving image, of the side. You can actually see shadows of people walking within the lights! So cool !!

NYC has real chilly lately, so while curling up in my bed I decided to take pictures of my room. Here are some random shots.

My window, the sand in the bottle is actually from a beach in San Francisco a few years back!

1/4th of my closet.. the rest is back at college..

My memory jar, every time I go on trips or anywhere special, I keep trinkets of my adventure here. There's key chains, ticket stubs, 3D glasses, pins, buttons and so much more.

Photos I hang above my bed, I took them while I was in DUMBO with my Minolta.

My mumsy got me egg tarts today, so goood, it's one of my favorite pastries.

It's been a while since I've blogged, as you all know.. Terribly sorry about that. I've been so caught up with school and art making, I haven't found time. I'm back home for the break so I'm probably going to blog much more often now. Just finished my first semester of college! I'm already excited for spring semester! I have ceramics and web design as well as painting.. Turns out my painting professor is from Brooklyn! Enough about school, so being back home in New York City is definitely a treat. I went home before then for Thanksgiving break and Fall break and it's always felt magical being back.. but now as the breaks frequent I don't appreciate home as much as I used to. In fact I feel like I don't appreciate living in NYC anymore.. I think my heart secretly belongs on the West Coast, the Bay Area actually..

It may not look like much, but it's the lunar eclipse!!

I've been dying to eat at Ippudo since I first discovered it, I have to admit it's a bit overhyped since it's just ramen for Christ's sake.. but it really was oh so good.. The wait is usually 2 hours to get a table and that's on a MONDAY night.. crazy right? I had to actually walk in, in person and make reservations 4 hours ahead.. my reservation was at 7pm, I came at 6:40 and I wasn't seated until 7:15.. Oh and another fact, they don't do take out and you can't doggy bag your food if you don't finish, and of course we can't forget, they don't take reservations over the phone.. or days ahead.. exclusive much?

To top it all off, matcha brulee! It was just green tea over green tea over green tea, mmm.

Time for some holiday spice, my cousin and aunt came over with homemade cookies.

There were macaroons, sugar cookies, muffins, coconut coated pretzels, chocolate peppermints..

Instead of the usual cookie baking everyone does during the holidays, I made tapioca pudding instead!

ARTSCHOOLISFCKINGRAD

I've been so overwhelmed with school lately! I moved in to my dorm about 3 weeks ago so I'm still getting used to things right now. I've had 2 weeks of classes so far and I love it here! I'm taking art history, drawing, sculpture, spatial design, writing and a conceptual experimentation class called Elements of Visual Thinking. For those of you who don't know yet, I'm attending Maryland Institute College of Art. I'm not sure what my major is yet but I'm interested in Sculpture and Environmental Design, so maybe I'll double major? Haha

That's my residence hall, I was pretty lucky to get it. Mostly upperclassmen live here and a few freshmen! It's so convenient living here, the dining hall's downstairs and it's so close to all the buildings I have class in. There's also a gym too!

The glass building is the Brown Center, it's where all the graphic design students have class and any other computer related art classes, like video or animation. On the left is the Bunting Center, it's where the environmental design majors have class and painting.

This is the Main Building, this is where the Admissions office is and Drawing classes and Elements of Visual Thinking are held.

If you look back at one of my previous posts, I came here for Open House and took a bunch of pictures. And yes, I cheated I used Google for the pictures in this post. I've been really busy so I haven't found time to take pictures and what not. I promise to keep up on with this blog as well and to start posting my artwork! Toodle loo!

Ohhhhhh Canaaaada

So I'm back but leaving again in a week! College starts on the 26th, but classes don't begin until the 30th. Pretty overwhelmed once I got back to NY so much to do, packing, last minute hang outs, etc. But here's some eye candy of what Canadian life was like for me or specifically Calgarian.

I went on all the slides, the red one was called Sky Screamer..sure lived up to its name!

They usually have a sea animal show here but I missed it while I was at the water park.

There was a Chinatown Chinese festival, they were celebrating 100 years of being established!

I wish I could play one of these, hah.

Apparently, HSBC was holding a random giveaway. You choose a key and open a random locker and whatever's in there is your prize!

So I won cotton candy.. sweet!

There were tons of merchants at the festival.

There were many performers throughout the day, for this one it was three little girls dressed in traditional acrobatic clothes.

They also had break dancers, this was a three man group. Their name was Music Crew, which I find to be pretty weak... I have to admit, from what I've seen from my high school talent show, they've got nothing on New York!

There was even some traditional Indian belly dancing.

There was some mural art in progress too! Any passerby can come in and paint their mark on this wall.

Here I am, leaving my mark. I ended up painting, " Representing NY " with a big red apple next to NY. Haha

Trying out public transit, I was driven during most of my stay. Public transportation isn't as common as New York.

I stopped by the Lego store in Chinook Centre mall. These Lego key chains were too cute!

They even had Star Wars!

So many Lego pieces...

Had a craving for froyo while I was in Canada, so I gave Yogen Fruz a shot. The difference from New York frozen yogurt franchises was that Yogen Fruz takes the fruits and yogurts and blends them together instead of giving out fresh toppings and soft serve yogurt. The yogurt is still soft..fruits are still there..just blended that's all.

The fruits are actually frozen, just left out to thaw a bit.

As you can see, the little specks of fruit are all sliced up, chopped and blended in. I had an original flavor with mango and strawberry.

So I got a bit nostalgic of home and had New York fries. Ironically, there are no NY fries franchises in America..

This is just the works with tomatoes as extra. The toppings are beef chili, sour cream, cheese sauce, green onions and bacon.

Now the last food picture of the day..

Breakfast before my flight, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese scone and strawberries. Can I get an mMm?!

Well that basically sums up my whole trip of 18 days or so in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I wouldn't say there's nothing to do there, you just have to search hard. I might visit again a few years later since I have relatives there. It was fun to reconnect with them again. Well now that I'm back, I'm bombarded with packing and last minute shopping for college! Leaving next Thursday, I'm pretty hyped.

By the way, I think this is the longest and most overdue post I've ever written so far on this blog. Enjoy!

I would also like to make a shout out to one of my reader, Jay. Thanks for recommending me all those stores, but unfortunately I didn't get to visit most of them. I actually only stopped by Value Village, couldn't find anything there unfortunately.

Leaving for Canada...TOMORROW! For the record, I'm only half way with packing. I hate that feeling you get before trips, always feeling like you forgot something...

Anyways, I brought all my favorite vintage clothes, all are pretty much thrifted and of course a good read and my little ol' sketchbook. Won't be blogging till mid to late August. Still contemplating whether to bring the laptop or not...if I do, you guys will hear much from me!

Going Goo Goo for Gaga

Been real busy lately I almost forgot about the blog! Started taking driving lessons and I've been having tons of late night outings filled with food, unfortunately no pictures to share cause I keep forgetting to bring my camera, plus that thing is huge. I use a Canon XSI so it's not really pocketbook friendly. But I do have pictures that reflect the purpose of this post, LADY GAGA of course! It happens to be a Gaga weekend, starting Friday morning. She had a free concert with the Today Show, I woke up at 4am in the morning to get to the city at 5:30 only to wait 3 hours for an 30 minute concert that started at 8:30am. But nonetheless, I felt it was something worth going through, worth experiencing..

Even though it seems like I woke up really early, people actually started lining up 2 days prior to the concert.. But anyways, here's her back. If you look closely by the flags and the parking sign, you'll see a figure in a little black dress with stockings and a garter. Yes, that's Lady Gaga!!

And she's gone, there was a lot of smoke when she made her entrance and exits.

That pretty much sums up my first Today Show concert. On another note, it's official, I'm going to Calgary, Alberta in Canada in early August! It'll be for two weeks, I'm going there to visit family. Any readers from Canada who'd like to recommend restaurants or stores to check out?? I'd appreciate it!

Summer hittin' fast

It's been a while since I've blogged. Not much has happened besides the fact that I just GRADUATED!!!

Summer has officially set in for me since I'm done with high school, pretty glad it's over. I don't think I'm gonna really miss anyone besides the art department at my school and my art teachers. Well this summer, I have a lot to look forward too. Art galleries, museums, theme parks, more piggin' out and of course vacation! I'm going to China or Calgary, Alberta in Canada or both! Still planning it out. Even though college seems far away, but I feel like August is gonna be here in no time. I'm gonna miss New York a lot once I head to Baltimore.. but I'm excited to start a new chapter in my life and have new beginnings and second chances. So what are you guys doing this summer? Going away anyone?

Recap of the Art Show

The art show was a great success! The assistant principal, also the head of the art department in my school said it was the BEST ART SHOW so far, of all the years that past!! A lot of people came and a lot of people bought art work too! I had a lot of fun and now I have some experience of curating an art show.

And that wraps up the art show, oh and the space we used. They're actually school gyms! After the show was over and we cleaned up everything, my art staff and I decided to go to Coney Island and check out the new park they have, Luna Park.

Air swings! They were so fun and high.

The Tickler coaster! Definitely lived up to its name, I laughed during the whole ride while my friend killed my ears with her screams, haha.

And of course, we can't forget the classic, Wonder Wheel. Coney Island is so much more fun at night.

It finally hit me that I'm graduating in 2 weeks... time flies by too fast..

Remember on my last post I said there was going to be a surprise? Well here it is!!

Edward R. Murrow High school is proud to present to you, its 4th annual art show! Which is curated by yours truly!! There will be films, installation art, performance art, live music, gourmet food, raffles and gifts and much much more. My art work will be shown as well. A special exhibit of Wyatt Moody will be shown too. Here is a link to his art work - http://wyatt-moody.deviantart.com/ He recently passed away in February.Ovation TV is doing a cover story and interviews at the show as well. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $8 dollars in advanced and $10 dollars at the door. Children that are 5 and below will be admitted for free. And for those of you who are curious about my art, I do mostly sculptures and I am going to art school in the fall, Maryland Institute College of Art. I haven't declared my major yet, but I'm looking into design.

I went on the Madison Gallery walk and boy do my feet feel like they're about to fall off. There were a total of 56 galleries participating in this event and I only went to half of them. Walked a total of 20 blocks, Manhattan blocks!

I've been so busy lately, I'll tell you why later on. It's a surprise. But anyways, I found a day to relax to go out for lunch. I was going to have Italian food at Grotto, but they weren't open until 6pm, grr. So I made a compromise and had Shanghai Cafe instead.

The sauces for Pork & Crab meat buns also known as the Xiaolongbaos and Shanghai Spring rolls.

Finally, the main course, Peking Duck!!! There's a special way to eat it. Scroll down for procedure.

We also had lobster with ginger and scallion, mm.

Peking duck with chives and cucumbers on a flour wrap and sauce.

Step 1, lay out everything in the center of the wrap.

Step two, fold both sides toward middle.

Step three, fold the remaining ends toward middle.

Step four, flip over and bon appetite!

Honestly, I think everyday should be mother's day. For all they do for us, cook our food, wash our clothes, clean the house, etc. etc. List goes on and on. But today, is just extra special besides a mother's birthday. I wonder why there aren't holidays for other types of members. Like grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, cousins and what not. But yet, at the same time I find holidays to be overrated. Especially Valentine's day and Christmas. Their purpose has shifted to consumerism. Anyways, I wish you and all your mothers a happy mother's day!

So glad that summer is about a month away. Decided to lock myself down today to get some work done. But here are some pictures of me on a tea break. Not a huge fan of coffee cause of the bitter taste and plus tea is underrated.

Oh and other news, I've decided to go to MICA. SAIC is a really great school with a great environment but I felt that MICA would give me a more traditional college experience because of the campus. The other thing about SAIC was that, I felt it lacked structure in classes. There was no curriculum to go by and there are no majors and minors. You basically cherry pick the classes yourself, I think the school would be better for graduate. If you know what you want to do and you have a focus and you're self disciplined, then you would succeed as a student as SAIC. But for me, at the moment, I have a focus but it's a broad focus. I know I wanna major in art and design, but I'm not sure specifically what yet. I also need a more grounded curriculum since I slacked off so much this year, I'm afraid it'll grow into college. Being at MICA will really push me to my limits. Anyways, on another note, what do you guys have planned for the summer?

Ay - ay - asian Festival

Spent the entire Sunday at the Asian Festival at Union Square. There was so much going on, food, organizations, Asian art, performances, dances, ceremonies and the list goes on. I think the majority that were represented were Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Tibetans and Filiphinos. I wonder where all the Malaysians and Vietnamese went, I mean NY has a large population of Asians..

Chicago was amazing, end of story. But that still doesn't answer my question of where I'm headed for college. This is pretty much the biggest decision I'll ever make in my life. I'm a bit upset that I didn't get any pizza at Chicago. Didn't have time to look for a pizzeria, instead I had paninis and vietnamese food. The tour was incredibly long. Treat for the Eyes: Scholastic Art & Writing Ceremony at Casita Maria

I really hate this year's location for the Scholastic Art & Writing Ceremony. I hated it so much that I didn't even bother to send my artwork to them so they could put it up at their gallery. Later was embarrassed though and kind of regretted it. I'll explain later. So I arrived pretty late into the Bronx to Casita Maria on a cold and rainy Sunday just for a measly silver key pin and a gold key pin. (Yeah, yeah I know I sound ungrateful for winning. But I really don't feel that spectacular this year, especially when I saw other pieces that won. Won't get into that now.) Anyways, here are some worthy eye candy pieces to show!

Overall, I'm kind of disappointed with this year. From what I've seen, last year's work was much much more impressive. The photography was the most disappointing of all. I wish I saw more 3-D work.So to explain why I was embarrassed for not having my work shown. After the ceremony was over, I was approached by CCTV. Apparently they wanted to interview me. However I had no artwork to show them, sigh. But they still interviewed me none the less. It was pretty exciting since I've never been interviewed by anything serious, besides the school newspaper. Plus, this was CCTV!! I was also embarrassed again when they asked me to write my name in chinese and I couldn't. They also spoke mandarin to me which unfortunately isn't my cultural tongue, cantonese is. Hmm, perhaps I should take up mandarin in college.

College Visit: Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)

So I'm stuck between School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Both are great schools but I can't decide what's the perfect fit for me. After a tour of the campus and school, I wouldn't really mind coming to MICA.. SAIC next week and then May I'll lock in my decision. Here are pictures of my trip.

Yes yes, I know.

I really wanna try this blogging thing again, I just feel the need to express myself and to document my daily ventures and perhaps my dull and boring life. However the purpose of this blog will change, it will no longer be about fashion but about ethnics, culture, art, music, travel, food and anything else that happens to the youthful mind. I will be deleting my old posts soon. There will probably be less talking in this blog and more photos. After all, I'm sure my rants aren't as entertaining as the photographs I take. A picture is worth a thousand words and is most appealing to the eye. With all that said, HELLO AGAIN!
